Peggy Kan Hai is a blessing. Peggy was in a car accident five years ago on Maui. She was struck by a man on a motorcycle. She was told she would never walk again. She found a way to beat the odds even though it left her living a life in pain.
She spent almost three years having surgeries and rehabilitation. This past September, because of the accident, she had to have her foot amputated.
This community has an asset in Peggy. She's a Maui girl and treats everyone with respect, dignity, honesty and such kindness. She has the biggest of heart of any one I've ever known. She donates her time to so many and is involved in this community and our keiki is so many ways.
Peggy almost died in the accident. And then again from having necrotic bones in her body and had to make the choice to lose her foot to save her life. While in the hospital, she got a deadly bacterial infection that almost killed her again.
I ask this community to extend its hearts to Peggy. Friends are rallying together and doing whatever possible to help with medical bills and getting her a prosthesis. Reach into your hearts and find a place for a stranger, someone who if you met you'd immediately call your friend.
A benefit luncheon for Peggy will be held June 3 at Lilikoi Grill. For more information, send email to frenzofpeggykanhai@gmail.com.
