WAILUKU - A new community organization has been formed "in response to the need for another independent, credible grass-roots voice with the goal of sustainable economic viability within the context of historic preservation and cultural practices," according to the group's announcement.
'O Waihe'e Ma Community Association and Cultural Center is registered with the state Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs, and its founding officers include President Marcial Pualani Kamaunu Basbas, Vice President Lyn M. Houpo, Secretary Jlorra P. Savala and Treasurer Harvest Baisa.
The organization said that its theory statement is: "People in our community create the community we want to live in."
According to the announcement, Basbas and others in the community "are actively involved in the preservation of historical Waihe'e and its local culture along with the protection of the natural resources mauka to makai" and "encourage and invite all Keiki 'O Waihe'e to come home to protect and share the living legacy of their hometown."
