June 9-Basketball Maui's "Night of Shooting Stars," an event that will include a concert by Christafari and two exhibition games, including one with NBA players, is scheduled for June 9 at the Lahaina Civic Center. June 9-Tryouts for the Maui Sports Academy College Summer Men's League are scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on June 9 at the Lahaina Civic Center. May 19-A mountain-bicycle race is scheduled for May 19, with a four-mile course starting near Makawao Veterans Cemetery and ending at Maliko Gulch. Registration is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m., and racing will start at 9. The event is open to riders of all skill levels, with a separate course for expert riders. The fee is $25 for adults, and $15 for participants under 18. Funds will help battle invasive species on the privately owned property on which the race will take place. Aug. 25-The Cycle to the Sun, a 36-mile race from Paia to the summit of Haleakala, 10,023 feet above sea level, is scheduled for Aug. 25, with a 6:30 a.m. start. Riders can register individually or as a three-person relay team. The entry fee is $200 for individual racers, or $300 for a team. A $25 fee will be charged after Aug. 6. June 15-The third annual Maui Football Combine is scheduled for June 15 at Lahainaluna Stadium. Participants are required to check in at 4 p.m., and official testing will start at 6 p.m. Testing will take place in the 40-yard dash, agility shuttle, three-cone shuttle, vertical jump and bench press.
