The illustration accompanying the April 23 report on plans for Wailuku was misleading. Where is the sky-blocking tangle of overhead wires? Of course, architects usually make their concept drawings as pretty as possible.
One of the big mistakes made in designing the Market Street overhaul was leaving up the wires. I was told the idea was to replicate the look of the street in the 1950s. However, the overhead wires then were few and thin - electric and telephone. Now the wires include heavy bundles of cables. They should have been buried.
The overhead view of a street is just as important as what is on the ground.
