KIHEI - A six-day disaster preparedness training session will be held Tuesday through May 19 at Kihei Elementary School.
The Community Emergency Response Team, or CERT, helps people to be better prepared to take care of themselves and their family and to respond to emergency situations in their communities.
CERT Basic Training consists of classroom instruction and field exercises. It is sponsored by the Maui County Civil Defense Agency and taught by Maui Fire Department instructors. The training is free and provided by a Homeland Security grant. The training is open to those 18 and older. Youths ages 14 to 17 may attend with a parent or guardian. No experience is needed.
The training will be held on the following days:
* 6-9:30 p.m., Tuesday and May 10
* 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m., May 12
* 6-9:30 p.m., May 15 and 17
* 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m., May 19
