May 2, 2012
The Maui News

PUKALANI - "The Rain Follows the Forest," featuring actor Jason Scott Lee, is this month's film in Ka Huliau Film and Lecture Series on Thursday, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Keopuolani Hale at Kamehameha Schools Maui.

Native Hawaiians have a saying, "Hahai no ka ua i ka ulula'au," which means "the rain follows the forest," a news release about the event said. The film was produced by the state Department of Land and Natural Resources to illustrate the importance of watershed protection and restoration. Lee sets out on a journey to learn about sustainable life in the islands. Through various conversations, including one with DLNR Chairman William J. Aila Jr., Lee learns about Hawaii's fragile freshwater supply and discovers connections to the upland forest environment.

Following the film, Maui's Puu Kukui Watershed Preserve conservation team will discuss its efforts to protect and maintain the watershed and answer questions from the audience.

The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served at 6 p.m.
