WAILUKU - A 30-year-old man was arrested on felony theft charges after police recovered more than 4,000 square feet of stolen seashore grass from his residence in Waiehu Kou on Thursday, police said.

Bail was set at $3,000 for Janden Jarnesky, who was charged with three counts of second-degree theft.

The 4,399 square feet of grass, valued at $8,600, had been stolen over several weeks from Southern Turf Sod Farm on Hansen Road in Puunene, said Lt. Jayson Rego of the Criminal Investigation Division.

Police executed a search warrant Thursday at Jarnesky's residence on Akakuu Street, where the grass had been planted in the yard, he said. The sod farm recovered the large blocks of stolen grass.

The search warrant also led to the recovery of stolen tools and equipment tied to other investigations that are continuing, Rego said. Police confiscated a vehicle suspected to contain stolen property.

Detective Leif Adachi and other detectives worked on the investigation, along with the Vice Division and Special Response Team.
