Hirono’s past actions don’t show support for kupuna

The Maui News

I enjoyed reading the typical rhetoric of Congresswoman Mazie Hirono's latest propaganda letter (Letters, April 29).

Her ambitions are to protect the 172,000 kupuna relying on Social Security in Hawaii. Meanwhile, she stabbed our precious kupuna in the back in 2010 after voting to remove $500 billion from Medicare via Social Security to help fund the not-so-deficit-neutral Obamacare. This, by the way, has already been forecasted by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office to have a deficit of over $1.76 trillion.

Hirono and her colleagues seem to forget that they have been chipping away at our Social Security funds since 1965. There are absolutely no funds left. Social Security's unfunded liabilities are $15.6 trillion and Medicare's unfunded liabilities are a whopping $82.3 trillion.

Furthermore, she supported the payroll tax holiday, where lawmakers have forced us taxpayers to rob our own imaginary Social Security funds to the tune of $143 billion instead of actually lowering personal income taxes.

Quite the scam - a scam Bernie Madoff would be proud of.

And while we are at it, her continued collectivists babble of fair share? The lower 49.5 percent of Americans don't pay any income taxes, while 50.5 percent of us carry the load - that's including the rich and kupuna. Sounds pretty fair, huh?

Either Hirono is feeling guilty or she's totally inept. Now she's a candidate for the U.S. Senate?

As of this writing, our national debt has exceeded our assets. We are Greece.
