WAILUKU - The county Liquor Control Adjudication Board disciplined four Maui businesses Thursday, two for serving alcohol to minors and two for having employees unlawfully drinking while on the job.
The Sansei Seafood Restaurant & Sushi Bar and Haui's Life's A Beach, both in Kihei, were each fined $2,000 for serving alcohol to a minor, with $1,000 suspended if they have no similar violations within a year.
Both establishments were swept up in an Aug. 26, decoy operation in which minors went into establishments to purchase alcohol. The legal drinking age is 21.
The operation was run by the county Department of Liquor Control and the Maui Police Department.
Sansei is owned by Kihei Boys Club LLC, and Life's A Beach is operated by Haui Inc.
In other action, the board fined Lahaina Cafe $1,000 after an employee was seen drinking on the premises on April 20, 2011. Half of the fine will be suspended if no similar violation occurs within a year.
The cafe also will receive a written reprimand for not having a time sheet showing employees' first and last names and their work schedules.
Three's Bar and Grill in Kihei was fined $1,000 after one of its employees was seen drinking at the establishment on Aug. 5.
The fine will be suspended if there is no similar violation for a year.
