May 7, 2012
The Maui News

HONOLULU (AP) - The Royal Hawaiian Band received the 2012 Industry Award from the Hawaii Academy of Recording Arts.

The award was presented Saturday at the Na Hoku Hanohano Lifetime Achievement Awards Reception.

Only three other entities have received the industry honor - Bishop Museum, Kamehameha Schools and the Hawaii Calls radio program.

Honolulu Mayor Peter Carlisle said that the Royal Hawaiian Band has a significant place in Hawaii's history and serves as a great institution of Hawaiian culture. The Royal Hawaiian Band celebrated its 175th anniversary last year. It performs more than 300 concerts annually - in Hawaii, on the Mainland and abroad.
