Pearl City defeats Maui High

HONOLULU - The Maui High School baseball team was limited to four hits, all singles, in a 5-1 loss to Pearl City on Tuesday at Iolani, sending the Sabers into the Wally Yonamine Foundation Division I Championship consolation round.

Mark Karaviotis drove in the lone run for the Sabers (8-7), the Maui Interscholastic League runners-up. Jacob Tiu had two hits.

Maui High will face Moanalua today at Les Murakami Stadium.

Every player in the Chargers' starting lineup had at least one hit. Reid Akau doubled and two drove in two runs, Tyler Tokunaga had two hits, including a triple, and scored twice and Kamalu Neal had a double and two runs.

Neal, the Chargers' starting pitcher, permitted one run in 5 1/3 innings. Tanner Tokunaga got the final five outs.

Pearl City improved to 10-6.

Alistair Reynolds pitched 3 2/3 innings for Maui High and permitted three runs. Kolish went the rest of the way.

Fourth-seeded Baldwin will face Kamehameha Kapalama today at Iolani in the quarterfinal round.

The Division II tournament begins today, and No. 3 seed Seabury Hall will play Maryknoll at Hans L’Orange Field with a semifinal berth at stake.
