WAILUKU - With Visitor Industry Charity Walks on Molokai and Lanai raising nearly a combined $21,000 last Saturday, the Maui Visitor Industry Charity Walk is set to go Saturday morning.

The Maui walk will take place at 7 a.m. at the War Memorial Soccer Field. Last year, with more than 2,100 walkers, the Maui walk raised more than $492,000 that benefited more than 75 Maui County charities, according to a news release from the Maui Hotel & Lodging Association, the host of Maui County walks.

Last Saturday, the Molokai Visitor Industry Charity Walk raised $10,176, with the Molokai Farmers Alliance leading the way with more than $5,000 collected. The walk began at One Alii Park and ended at Hotel Molokai, where participants were treated to a festive program with entertainment, door prizes and bento box lunches provided by Hotel Molokai.

On Lanai, the walk attracted 107 participants who raised $10,194. It was the first Visitor Industry Charity Walk on Lanai since 2007.

The walk began at The Lodge at Koele and ended at the Lanai Senior Center, where walkers enjoyed a Four-Seasons-prepared cuisine from around the world, entertainment and door prizes. The top business fundraiser was the Four Seasons Resort, which garnered more than $5,000.

Alice Bouman, Chad Campbell, Maggie Masi-Campo and Phyllis McOmber organized the walk. Funds raised on Molokai and Lanai will support programs on those islands.

"The Maui Hotel & Lodging Association is proud to host events on Maui, Molokai and Lanai," said Carol Reimann, executive director for the Maui Hotel & Lodging Association. "The Charity Walk represents the visitor industry's commitment to giving back, and we are pleased to support our local community."
