Talk about adding insult to injury. When I read that the Maui Lani sand removal (The Maui News, May 7) was not classified as having a significant environmental impact, I almost spilled my coffee.
Truckloads of sand are rolling out of those hills like ants heading back to the anthill. I watched dumbfoundedly from the Kaiser parking lot recently as there were so many trucks leaving a traffic officer was needed.
I asked him when I finally got permission to move forward, where was all of the sand was going? He said "various places." I was reminded of Molokai having sand dunes mined until somebody woke up. I look forward to reading more about this enormous earth removal. What is their permit number?
