Chico State names DeLima athlete of week

CHICO, Calif. - Chico State senior Jon-Michael Delima was named the school's athlete of the week after helping the Wildcats win a ninth straight California Collegiate Athletic Association track and field title at the championship meet Thursday through Saturday in Los Angeles.

Delima, a Baldwin High School graduate, placed third in the decathlon with 6,249 points. He was the event's top finisher in both the 1,500 meters (4 minutes, 33.92 seconds) and pole vault (14 feet, 7 1/4 inches). Delima also was eighth in the pole vault, clearing 14-10 1/4.

Youth learn-to-swim classes scheduled

KIHEI - Classes for youths learning how to swim are scheduled for May through July at Kihei Aquatic Center.

The classes will last 30 minutes, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, or Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, and are divided into three sessions - from May 29 to June 16, June 18 to July 7 and July 9 to 26. Classes are limited to four participants, and will be grouped according to ability. The cost is $85 per session.

Fitness classes for new mothers available

KIHEI - Stroller Strides of Maui, a fitness program for new mothers and their children, will conduct classes three days a week at Hope Chapel - at 9 a.m. on Mondays, and 8 a.m. on Thursdays and Fridays.

Full membership, with unlimited classes, is $50 per month. The fee is $10 for a single class, $25 per month for one class per week or $100 for any 10 classes.
