Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar Co. is doing an awesome job of getting the word out about its burns. By going to the website www.hcsugar.com/cane_burning.shtml#cane, I was able to set up automatic notices and updates to be sent to my email on a regular basis. The email update provides a link to "Cane Burning Information."
Under "Cane Burning Information," I clicked on "news you can use." That took me to a map that shows exactly where the burns will be. By clicking on each burn outline, I can see the exact dates and times when locations will be burned.
I don't have any health problems from the cane smoke, I'm just a curious resident. But for those who do, this seems like a great service from HC&S.
If others, like a May 7 letter writer, would like to get these notices, look under the same "Cane Burning Information" heading and click on "Notify Me in Advance" to sign up for these notices. It's easy and very informative.
