Taxpayers are already burdened enough

May 12, 2012
The Maui News

Council Member Joseph Pontanilla doesn't want to burden the county. Is he awake? We are getting hit with increasing fees everywhere - the price of fuel, food, electric and another 10 percent on top of the property taxes we already pay is going to burden us, the local population.

This state already is taxing the lower economic group, me included, among the fifth highest in the nation.

I am retired and trying to pay increasing electric bills, registration fees, property taxes, with only a slight raise of 3 percent Social Security this year.

Funding new positions is crazy in this economy. Two zone enforcement inspectors to monitor property owners? I think they need to hire two independent enforcement inspectors to monitor themselves. We are taxed enough and enough is enough.
