WAILUKU - A 49-year-old Wailuku man who was critically injured while paragliding in Upcountry on Saturday remained in the intensive care unit Sunday morning at Maui Memorial Medical Center, said police Lt. Wayne Ibarra.
After being reported missing at 12:54 p.m. in the Waipoli area Saturday, fire crews found the man about an hour later on a mountainside on the southeast flank of Haleakala. The man was about 4,000 feet above sea level and suffered from critical head injuries after crashing into trees, officials said.
The man was airlifted out of the area by the fire department's Air One helicopter and taken to Maui Memorial by the Maui MedEvac helicopter. His name was not released Sunday.
