KIHEI - Police are looking for a 19-year-old Kihei man suspected of stabbing another man early Monday in the parking lot of a Kihei apartment complex.
The suspect was identified as Sydney Elaban-Paoa, said Lt. Jayson Rego of the Criminal Investigation Division.
He said police responded to a report of an assault in progress at 3:24 a.m. in the parking lot of the Paradise Gardens apartment complex at 851 S. Kihei Road, where a 21-year-old man was found with cuts to his face, neck and upper torso. The man was in critical condition when he was taken by ambulance to Maui Memorial Medical Center, Rego said.

Police said the victim was stabbed and cut following an argument between the two men.
Rego said the suspect, who lives in the complex with his parents, fled after the stabbing. Police recovered a knife at the scene, he said.
Elaban-Paoa is described as 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing 165 pounds, with black hair, brown eyes and a tan complexion. He may have dyed his hair. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans and blue tennis shoes.
Rego said Elaban-Paoa is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached.
