Taste of Makena

May 17, 2012
The Maui News
“Taste of Makena,” the annual fundraiser for the Rotary Club of Maui, will feature dishes from some of Maui’s favorite restaurants and a range of wines at a seaside estate on Maui’s sunny south shore. The event (formerly known as Chefs on the Beach) will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Honua Kai Lani Estate. Restaurants serving samples of their cuisine at the event will be A Saigon Café, Bentos & Banquets by Bernard, Down to Earth, Famous Dave’s BBQ, Giannotto’s Pizzeria, Lulu’s Maui, Maui Catering Co., Mulligan’s On The Blue and Roy’s Kaanapali. The Maui Job Corps Culinary Arts program will provide desserts. The afternoon of entertainment will include steel guitarist Henry K. Allen, Hula Honeys and the jazz sounds of Sal Godinez with Estee Graham. Guests will find treasures and adventures in silent and live auctions, with Dean Wong as auctioneer. Funds raised will be used for the club’s community-service projects. Parking will be at Mulligan’s on the Blue in Wailea, with free shuttles provided to the estate. Tickets are $75 a person, and are available at Ben Bridge Jewelry in Queen Ka‘ahumanu Center, at Topaz Goldsmith & Gallery in Kihei, or through PayPal at the club’s website, www.rotaryclubofmaui.org. All guests must be 21 or older.
