Rainbow Wahine lose NCAA opener in nine

TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Hawaii softball team gave up four runs in the ninth inning and lost 7-3 to Notre Dame on Friday in both teams' opening game of the NCAA tournament.

Kelly Majam hit a pair of solo home runs for the Rainbow Wahine (44-8), who will face North Dakota State today in an elimination game - the winner of that contest will play later today against the Fighting Irish or Arizona.

Majam, who finished the day 4-for-5, homered in the third and fifth innings - the second drive made the score 3-3.

Katey Haus hit a three-run homer for Notre Dame (39-14) in the ninth.

Hawaii's Stephanie Ricketts (28-5) was charged with all seven runs, on 14 hits.

Laura Winter (28-9) pitched a complete game, striking out eight batters.

The Rainbow Wahine had led 2-1 after four innings.
