For the past century the islands of Hawaii have been losing their beaches (The Maui News, May 10). It's sad knowing that one day we might not have beaches anymore.
The beach is where people go to have fun, have parties, to go running. And as the sea level rises higher and higher, there's a chance that we will lose all of our sandy beaches. Hotels would have to rebuild because they are so close to the shoreline. And we would lose our shells to make jewelry.
Also as the sea level keeps rising, and if it goes past the beaches, it could flood the entire island one day.
But I think we could save it if we put more research into it. If we spend more time researching it - what's causing it and if there is a way to prevent it. Also, if we put time into it, we could prevent it from rising higher and higher so it just stays the same. And that way, we can preserve our islands.
