HONOLULU - A wind advisory for the summit of Haleakala has been extended to 6 p.m. today.
The advisory from the National Weather Service covers the elevation above 6,000 feet.
The advisory means that winds of 30 mph and gusts of 50 mph are expected.
The easterly winds of 30 to 40 mph with gusts of up to 50 mph are expected to persist and may require an extension and possible upgrading, the National Weather Service said.
The strong winds can make driving difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles. Loose objects need to be secured.
