Attorney general should look into bonuses

May 27, 2012
The Maui News

The latest article that caught everybody's attention was about bonuses for council members' staff (The Maui News, May 12).

If there is that kind of extra money laying around there are better places for it to be passed around.

Anyway, it's not for the taxpayers to be dishing out money for staff members doing their job. We did not vote for the council members' staff; we voted for council members. If they want to give out bonuses, that's a good gesture but they should pull it out of their own pockets. They are doing the council members' job to make them look like they know what they're doing in office.

The attorney general's office should look into this with a fine-tooth comb.

Also why are the bonuses different for each council member? It looks like the one with the most bonuses is not doing his job.

Council members, made a commitment to serve the people, and your staff committed to help you. Do your own legwork - that's why we voted for you.
