Canine surfer quickly takes to the waves

Rocky the Yorkshire terrier leads the way as Wailea Canoe Club paddler Leina DeFrancia, 13, surfs at Cove Park on Tuesday morning in Kihei. DeFrancia said Rocky belongs to her neighbor, and though he looked like a pro in the busy ocean, it was only his second time surfing. DeFrancia was catching a few waves after practicing with the girls-13 team in preparation for the Maui County Hawaiian Canoe Association’s season opening John M. Lake Regatta at Kahului Harbor on Saturday.
