Lihikai students get up close and personal lessons at science day

Ann Emmsley of the University of Hawaii Maui College discusses how to figure out the amount of clay in the soil with students Malie Kamalo and Caleb Barbosa Ibuos. Emmsley and others from Maui Electric Co., Kealia Wildlife Refuge, state Department of Land and Natural Resources, Hawaiian Telcom, the county Wastewater Reclamation Division and the University of Hawaii Institute for Astronomy participated in an all-day science day at Lihikai Elementary School on May 21. Students learned about renewable energy, sound waves and the solar system and how much water it takes to flush a toilet.
