Boy found floating in pool hospitalized
KIHEI - A 6-year-old boy was transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical but improving condition Tuesday after he was found floating in a pool at a Kihei condominium complex, according to the Maui County Paramedics Association.
Kihei medics were dispatched at 12:46 p.m. to the Maui Gardens condominium at 1450 S. Kihei Road. When crews arrived at 12:51 p.m., a bystander was performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the unresponsive boy, said Ryan Joslin, spokesman for the paramedics association. He said paramedics assumed care of the patient, starting advanced cardiac life support measures that continued as the boy was being transported.
Kihei firefighters and police also responded.
Visitor is seriously injured while hiking
HANA - A 62-year-old man was rescued Wednesday after falling about 15 feet while hiking on the Red Sand Beach Trail, officials said.
Hana firefighters responded to the 4:42 p.m. alarm, securing the victim and hiking him out to the roadway with help from police, said Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga.
From there, medics transported the patient to Hana Ball Park, where an air ambulance was waiting, according to the Maui County Paramedics Association. The flight left at 5:43 p.m., arriving at Maui Memorial Medical Center nine minutes later. The patient, who was in serious condition, sustained head and leg injuries requiring advanced life support care, according to medics.
The man, a visitor staying in Kaanapali, had been alone on the trail, Mainaga said. He said the man suffered a 2-inch laceration to his forehead and a broken femur.
Wailuku pools to be closed for work
WAILUKU - Both the Old and New Wailuku pools will be closed for maintenance today and Friday, the Department of Parks and Recreation announced.
When the Old Wailuku Pool opens next week, it will be used exclusively for lap swimming during lunchtime hours this summer. Lap swim hours will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. Monday through Friday from Monday to July 27. The lap swim hours are being offered as another option for those who exercise during their lunch break.
