Buddha’s Birthday event begins Saturday

June 1, 2012
The Maui News

PAIA - Buddha's Birthday will be celebrated by the Maui Tibetan Buddhist Dharma Center Saturday through Monday.

Known as Saga Dawa in the Tibetan tradition, the special ceremonies will take place around the Great Paia Peace Stupa and the temple gardens. Prayers will be offered honoring important events in the historical Buddha Gautama's life - his birth, his death and his attaining nirvana.

The Peace Stupa will be adorned with lights as a reminder of the collective wish for world peace, as well as the Buddha's teachings on nonviolence and loving kindness.
