Hokama files papers

WAILUKU - Maui County Council Member Riki Hokama has filed nomination papers for re-election to the council's Lanai residency seat.

Hokama served on the council from 1999 to 2009 and was elected again in 2010.

He is currently running unopposed, according to the state Office of Elections late Friday afternoon.

"I appreciate the opportunity to serve the County of Maui and the island of Lanai on the County Council and will continue to push for the creation of job opportunities, needed services for our youth and kupuna, and government in balance with the ability to pay," Hokama said in a news release Friday.

He is a graduate of Lanai High and the University of Hawaii and has worked for Castle & Cooke, other private businesses and in the state Legislature. Hokama was an elected delegate to the 1978 state Constitutional Convention.
