The Maui News

HONOLULU -- A wind advisory for the Haleakala summit including Haleakala National Park has been extended through 6 a.m. Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

The advisory, which means that winds of 30 mph with gusts of 50 mph are expected, covers the elevation of 6,000 feet and higher on the mountain.

Northeasterly winds about 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 40 mph will remain strong and gusty through Sunday, the weather service said.

The high winds can make driving difficult especially for high-profile vehicles. Loose objects should be secured.
