Hana Highway near Hamoa is open after fatal accident

HAMOA -- A man driving a pickup truck died early this morning after he apparently was ejected from the truck after it hit a telephone pole in the area of Milepost 47 along Hana Highway, according to the Maui County Paramedics Association.

Another man, a passenger believed to be 20 years old, was in stable condition with head and leg injuries. He was taken by paramedics to Hana Airport where he was flown via Maui Medevac to Maui Memorial Medical Center.

The highway near the Hamoa area was closed from 6 a.m. to around 2:30 p.m. today as police investigated the accident. The crash occurred around 5:40 a.m.
