WAILUKU -- The Maui County Council this morning unanimously passed on second and final reading a $549.9 million spending plan for fiscal 2013, which includes property tax hikes and water rate and bus fare increases.
At the last minute in the process, Council Member Mike Victorino proposed today an amendment to eliminate the daily bus pass commuter route rate of $5; the measure passed.
The commuter route pass consists of only one-round trip per day, With the council voting to increase the one-way rate to from $1 to $2, a $5 commuter pass did not make sense when two one-way fares are $4, the council member said.
