Star Noodle debuts a slew of new menu items

June 7, 2012
The Maui News

Star Noodle in Lahaina won an award for "Best New Restaurant" when it opened two years ago and its Executive Chef, Sheldon Simeon, has been named "Best Chef on Maui" among many other accolades since the restaurant opened.

Now, the owners want to add to the winning menu concept by introducing new dishes. You must try the scallop shots with wafu dashi, ginger, scallion and lemon EVOO.

If you love broth and noodles, you will want to dive into the hot 'n sour with chili-lime dashi, shrimp, Thai basil, smoked prosciutto, bean sprouts and Thai garlic. The taste and presentation are phenomenal. Filipino "bacon and eggs" consists of crisp pork belly, an egg served at 62 degrees with a smattering of tomatoes and onions.

“We’ve been open for two years with basically the same menu. So come in and try our new menu additions,” says Executive Chef Sheldon Simeon.

Noodle lovers will also want to lift chopsticks to the Look Moore Funn, a play on owner Michael Moore's last name. Look Funn noodles are rolled up and served with black-bean sauce, choi sum and chili oil for some extra kick.

"I created the dishes, and my sous chefs implement them," says Simeon. "They are Ben Smith, Joseph Kulukulualani, Alex Yago and Kane Goulet. We're open for lunch and dinner." Call 667-5400.
