HONOLULU - Gas prices statewide declined during the week ending Thursday, including in Wailuku, where the average price at the pump for unleaded regular fell 2 cents a gallon from the previous week to $4.87 a gallon, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch.
Still, Wailuku's price is 46 cents higher than last year. The record price is $4.98 a gallon set May 9, 2011. Thursday's price is also 2 cents lower than last month.
The statewide average for regular went down 3 cents from the previous week to $4.50. The price is a nickel less than a month ago but 52 cents more than a year ago.

Honolulu's average price dropped to $4.34 a gallon, which is 4 cents less than a week ago. Thursday's price is 8 cents less than a month ago and 42 cents higher than this time last year.
In Hilo, the average price was $4.63 a gallon, 2 cents less than last week, 7 cents less than last month and 66 cents higher than this time last year.
AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch is a weekly snapshot of gas prices. Prices are derived from vehicle credit card transactions at more than 100,000 stations around the country. Prices shown are combined averages of the last card swipe of previous day.
