Skilled health care is available on Maui

June 9, 2012
The Maui News

I would like to take this time to extend my gratitude and commend such a skilled and honorable doctor. If it were not for him, I would not be alive today.

His name is Dr. Christopher Neal. He specializes in neuroradiology and diagnostic radiology. He is an interventional radiologist at Maui Memorial Medical Center, who takes care of stroke and aneurysm cases.

About six years ago, I had a ruptured aneurysm and am so blessed to have had such a committed doctor save my life. The procedure that I needed was an FDA-approved intracranial wing-span stent. Basically, the stent keeps the narrowed arteries open in the brain to prevent strokes.

Having the stent gives me the ultimate peace of mind.

I am very fortunate to have been the first one in the state to have this type of stent put in.

Hawaii residents, especially Maui residents, no longer need to travel to the Mainland to have it done. Dr. Neal is credited with developing the stroke treatment program within the last 15 years at MMMC. The cardiovascular department has the most up-to-date equipment in the state.

This is just a reminder to my family and friends of Maui County to be grateful and feel privileged to have such an accomplished doctor saving lives and living here on the island.
