Efforts are not promoting energy independence

June 9, 2012
The Maui News

During the 2008 campaign, Barack Obama made many promises including doing everything he could to make our country energy independent.

Since that time, his actions have definitely followed the liberal playbook. He authorized $2 billion for oil exploration in Brazil (where supporter George Soros is heavily invested) but won't allow any exploration or drilling on federal property - on land or sea.

He has effectively shut down new drilling even though there currently are three drilling rigs sitting idle in the Gulf. He has recently laid claim to the fact that we're now producing more oil than ever before. He conveniently omits the fact that any new drilling was authorized by Presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton and that no new oil production is a result of his administration.

The shovel-ready Keystone pipeline could have produced thousands of jobs and millions of barrels of oil, but Obama said no.

He's now promoting an "all of the above" approach to increasing energy production in our country.

I haven't seen anything in The Maui News about his plans to produce nuclear energy. Where's his plan for that? What about coal? What about our huge supply of natural gas? I don't see his administration promoting or funding proved energy resources.

However, he gladly gives our tax dollars to companies with shaky business plans and questionable financial outlooks. Is it just coincidence that most of the companies getting funds were also donors to his campaign?
