HONOLULU - University of Hawaii backup quarterback Cayman Shutter has been suspended for the first four games of the 2012 season, the school announced Friday.

Shutter, a junior from Kailua, had been suspended indefinitely after his arrest on suspicion of drunken driving on March 29.

"I hope Cayman learns from this experience and can become a better person because of this," UH coach Norm Chow said.

Shutter is allowed to participate in offseason team activities and practices, but he will sit out the Warriors' games at Southern California (Sept. 1), against Lamar (Sept. 15) and Nevada (Sept. 22), and at Brigham Young (Sept. 28).
