Couples renew vows under rare skies

June 13, 2012
The Maui News
Twenty couples renewed their vows June 5 during the transit of Venus at the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa. The free event was in honor of Venus, the Roman goddess of love. In the once-in-a-lifetime event, the planet Venus passed between Earth and the sun. As Venus passed, it appeared as a black dot against the sun. The next Venus transit will be in 2117. There were other activities at the resort related to the transit, which was broadcast on a big screen from the resort’s Celestron high-definition 14-inch aplanatic telescope.
