KULA -- Maui County fire crews are currently battling a brush fire near Cooke and Hapapa Roads in Kula.

Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga said three homes were already impacted by the fire.

Multiple fire crews are at the scene including two helicopters.

Nearby resident Jon Woodhouse, who lives on Kekaulike Avenue, said: "I see a lot of smoke. Some tiny flames."

He said he could see people using shovels to try to douse the flames.

Woodhouse said helicopters are constantly doing water drops. He added that sudden gusts of winds are at times coming through the area.

The fire was reported at 12:09 p.m.

For more information see Tuesday's edition of The Maui News.

Mainaga said an earlier blaze in Olinda above Maui County's Kahakapao reservoirs had been contained.
