KAUNAKAKAI -- An early-morning fire today caused major damage to a Hotel Molokai building housings its kitchen, laundry and storage, a fire official said.
The 75-by-50-foot, two-story wooden structure was 75 percent engulfed in flames on the bottom floor when firefighters arrived in response to a 3:22 a.m. alarm, said Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga.
Kaunakakai, Hoolehua and Pukoo engine companies responded, bringing the fire under control at 5:40 a.m.
No injuries were reported and the cause was undetermined pending further investigation.
Damage estimates were unavailable this morning.
