‘Delight’ in delectables

June 20, 2012
The Maui News

First Photo: Stillwell's Bakery & Cafe lead baker Jason Matsui removes a pan of rolls from the Wailuku establishment's large oven Tuesday morning. A product of the Culinary Arts Program of what was then Maui Community College, Matsui said that he has been working at Stillwell's for 17 years.

Second Photo: Nearby, fellow baker Judy Toba applied frosting to "Strawberry Delight" mousse cakes. Toba is a graduate of the college's Culinary Arts Program as well. Owner Roy Stillwell said that he and his bakers have made a lot of dough over the years. He estimates that since the bakery opened Dec. 13, 1995, they have produced more than 224,000 pounds of bread products, everything from loaves to rolls. During that time, he said that they have made nearly 1.7 million cream horn desserts.
