What is a mushroom that likes to party? Why, it's a . . . "FUNGI!"
"Fun guy!" Get it?
There's a Maui woodworker, Cole Warren, aka a "fun guy," who will be the featured artist at the Maui Crafts Guild in Paia from Friday to July 22.
Maui woodworker Cole Warren will be the featured artist at the Maui Crafts Guild in Paia starting Friday through July 22.
Dancing Houses in Paradise by Janet Davis.
You can meet the artist during an opening reception from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Friday. It's all part of the festivities at the gallery and store to be held in conjunction with Paia Town's monthly Fourth Friday celebration.
Refreshments and live music by Upcountry Celtics will take it over the top.
Cole's exhibition will feature works made with spalted Maui woods. "Spalting" is any form of wood coloration caused by fungi growth.
Although primarily found in dead trees, spalting can also occur under stressed conditions, even in living trees.
"You just never know how amazing the spalting is until you cut into the wood," says Cole. "It's like opening a box of chocolates!"
For this show, Cole has created inspirational wood turnings as well as utensils, desk accessories, and tables from Maui's woods that tend to spalt. Come and feast your senses in Paia on this special evening!
The Maui Crafts Guild is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Call 579-9697 or visit the website www.mauicraftsguild.com.
