A June 16 letter writer accused Mitt Romney of taking the voters for fools because he didn't remember exactly what he said. He did indicate that whatever he said, he will stand by it. This would allude to him actually believing in his stand on whatever issue was being discussed.
The letter writer states that President Barack Obama has stopped job loss cold while fighting a hostile Congress. If I remember correctly, the House of Representatives belonged to the Democrats from 2006 to 2010. I also remember this as being the time period of the collapse, with the worst hitting in 2009.
How does this writer define stopped cold? Our economy lost more than 300,000 jobs in May while creating a mere 69,000. The unemployment rate is stuck around 8.4 percent. And this is with large numbers of people now having exhausted their benefits. Employment numbers have always been manipulated by politicians and that manipulation continues with this administration, whose chief executive has sealed so many records of his past.
I don't trust any politicians unless they admit that all they want is to gain and maintain power, money and prestige. It's time that we the people hold them fully accountable. Then again, individuals in our society need to be held accountable for their actions. How can an irresponsible citizenry elect honest governors?
