Kiara K. Galicinao of Lahainaluna High School and Reece A. Bonilla of the University of Hawaii at Manoa's School of Architecture have each received $3,000 scholarships from the American Institute of Architects, Maui/Joint AIA Washington D.C. Chapter's 2012 Architectural Scholarship Award.
The recipients will receive their awards at a luncheon on July 25 at Bistro Casanova in Kahului. Jennifer Chirico, executive director of the Sustainable Living Institute of Maui at the University of Hawaii Maui College, will be the guest speaker.
Galicinao is Lahainaluna High School's class of 2012 valedictorian. She is the daughter of Kevin Galicinao and Kelsie Matsui of Lahaina. Galicinao has been accepted by the University of Oregon School of Architecture and Allied Arts and the University of Hawaii at Manoa School of Architecture. Galicinao is sponsored by Michael Sado, design technology teacher at Lahainaluna.
Bonilla is enrolled in the architectural doctorate program at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. His parents are Roy and Edie Bonilla of Pukalani. He is sponsored by Alvin Yoshimori, chairman and president of GYA Architects Inc.
