HONOLULU - City officials have agreed with Hawaiian Electric Co. on an expanded contract to supply power to Oahu.
Utility officials said Tuesday the new agreement updates an deal made in 1986 with the city and county of Honolulu. It covers electricity generated by a solid waste-to-energy plant at Campbell Industrial Park in west Oahu.
The plant has added a new boiler to boost its capacity to 73 megawatts from 46 megawatts.
Officials say the contract is under review by the Hawaii Public Utilities Commission.
