FIRST PHOTO: Water is bled from a Kahului fire hydrant to ease pressure on a not-quite-repaired water main Friday afternoon on Niihau Street.
SECOND PHOTO: The water main ruptured during construction work on nearby Lono Avenue. Buried shallower than expected, the line was not dug up but burst from the weight of construction equipment being driven across the sand above it. County Department of Water Supply officials said nearby Kahului residents were left without water service. A tanker was brought to the intersection of Kane Street and Lono to provide residents water in their own containers.
