NAPILI - Firefighters used a saw to break into a closed townhouse garage Friday afternoon after the unit's owner told them her car was on fire inside, said Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga.
Instead, firefighters found smoke, a burned-out garage door motor and some ceiling damage, Mainaga said.
Napili and Lahaina firefighters responded to the 2:01 p.m. alarm at Napili Gardens, located at 5432 Lower Honoapiilani Road. When they arrived, a resident said her car was on fire, and the garage door had closed behind her when she left the garage, Mainaga said. The garage door was the only way inside.
At 2:20 p.m., firefighters used a portable power saw to get into the garage, where they found the burned-out garage door motor but no damage to the car. No injuries were reported.
