Sigh, yet another letter criticizing the Superferry (Letters, June 15). The fact is, a rare bipartisan decision allowed the passage of Act 2, which permitted the Superferry to operate while the environmental statement was prepared. A special session of the Democrat-majority Legislature was called by the leadership to pass that bill. A rare show of support for a project by both the Democratic Legislature and then-Gov. Linda Lingle.
The Superferry was run out of business not because it wasn't good for the islands, but because of short-sighted environmentalist and existing businesses. Kill the competition and use the whales as the excuse.
We all lost a great opportunity for alternative, affordable transportation throughout the islands.
