WAILUKU -- A 27-year-old Wailuku woman also has been taken into custody on charges of second-degree murder stemming from the death of her boyfriend's 4-year-old son.

On Saturday, police records showed Grace Lee-Nakamoto had been arrested and confined Friday in lieu of $1 million bail on the murder charge. Her co-defendant, Kyle McKeown, 32, of Wailuku, had been arrested hours earlier. His bail also is $1 million.

Both had been released June 5 on their own recognizance pending a preliminary hearing and an ongoing investigation into the May 30 death of Zion McKeown.

On Friday, a Maui grand jury indicted Lee-Nakamoto and Kyle McKeown, 32, of Wailuku on a charge of second-degree murder.

McKeown and Lee-Nakamoto brought an unresponsive Zion to the Maui Memorial Medical Center emergency room at 10:55 p.m. May 29. He died at 4:30 a.m. the next day.

An autopsy found the boy suffered blunt force trauma to his lower abdomen, "with the injuries most likely coming from someone stomping on him while he was lying on the ground," according to an affidavit filed in the case.
