GRACE LEE-NAKAMOTO, taken into custody
Both had been released June 5 on their own recognizance pending a preliminary hearing and an ongoing investigation into the May 30 death of Zion McKeown.
Friday, a Maui grand jury indicted Lee-Nakamoto and Kyle McKeown on a charge of second-degree murder.
McKeown and Lee-Nakamoto brought an unresponsive Zion to the Maui Memorial Medical Center emergency room at 10:55 p.m. May 29. He died at 4:30 a.m. the next day.
An autopsy found that the boy suffered blunt force trauma to his lower abdomen "with the injuries most likely coming from someone stomping on him while he was lying on the ground," according to an affidavit filed in the case.
