WAILUKU - Maui Police Department officers Denton K. Galarza, Dennis Clifton, Christopher P. Gantala and Audra Sellers have been promoted to the rank of sergeant.
Galarza, 37, has been an officer for 12 years, working in the Molokai and Wailuku patrol districts. He was born in Honolulu and raised on Maui and the Big Island, where he graduated in 1992 from Konawaena High School. He and his wife live in Wailuku.
Clifton, 47, has been an officer for 10 years, working in the Molokai, Hana, Lahaina and Wailuku patrol districts and in the Community Relations Section. He has been a field training officer, school resource officer and Drug Abuse Resistance Education officer. He has a 17-year-old son, Dylan, and lives in Kula.

DENNIS CLIFTON, promoted to sergeant
Gantala has been an officer for more than eight years, working in the Wailuku Patrol District and the Vice Division Gambling and Morals Unit. He is also a member of the Special Response Team. He enjoys spending time with his wife, Lana, and children, Tristen, Keegan and Chaela.
Sellers, an officer since 2002, has been on special assignment as a background investigator with the Internal Affairs section for the past four years. Before that, she was assigned to the Lahaina Patrol District. She is a field training officer, arrest defense tactics and Taser instructor and a member of the peer support group. She and her partner, Deyna, have a dog and a cat.
The promotions took effect March 1.
